This piece ‘Eddy Street’ is based on a photo I took in San Francisco. The repeated forms and neglected buildings caught at first my attention. It is located in the Tenderloin area, between more prosperous districts and is a low income housing neighbourhood, with hotels used for single room occupancy. Walking through it brought a lot of mixed feelings. It is slowly improving with new programs with a view to becoming a mixed and diverse neighbourhood.
In the background the townhall with its powerful dome is purposely toned down.

I screen printed block by block on cotton calico using madder root and pomegranate skins pastes to highlight the street, and logwood for the rest.
