Soil heals

Print and thread

I once heard my father say, ‘la terre guérit’ (soil heals). He has been gardening all his life. He spends every day sowing, cutting, experimenting , growing vegetables, fruits and flowers. I have come to realise how important this activity is, not only as practical use of time but also to help overcome life events through connecting with nature and growth, through a connection with the soil.

My work in this piece explore the elements of seeding and indefinite growing. The family worn cotton cloth with its size and imperfections directed and lead my work. Using a material which has already a story helped me to create a meaningful and visually tactile piece. There is a story attached to it, a memory, a feeling of continuity and growth.
